To propose opening two routes of bus canoe

Bus canoes will run along routes from Binh Quoi wharf (Thu Duc District) to Bach Dang wharf (District 1) and from Bach Dang wharf along the East-West avenue linking Lo Gom bridge.

May 30th, Tran The Ky, Deputy Director of HCM City Department of Transportation & Traffic said that to be organizing to get ideas about proposal pilot opening two routes of bus canoe on the river of Daily Co., Ltd to submit City People's Committee for decision. He evaluated if HCM City held effectively the model bus boats, bus canoes that will share the pressure of road traffic.

 

To disentangle traffic jam, to combine river travel

Previously, Department of Transportation & Traffic and related agencies surveyed three expected river routes for pilot opening type of public transportation by waterway to contribute reducing road traffic congestion. Department of Transportation & Traffic evaluated these three lines with wide river-bed, not too low clearance of bridge so that it is satisfied to open canoe routes. However, in the surveyed route, Daily Company has proposed to first pilot line from Binh Quoi wharf (Linh Dong Ward, Thu Duc District) to Bach Dang wharf (District 1) and route Ben Nghe – Tau Hu (from Bach Dang Wharf along the canals along the East-West avenue and ends at Lo Gom bridge). Later, when these lines operate effectively, we will expand new routes of An Loc (District 12), to Mieu Noi area (Phu Nhuan District), Binh Loi bridge or Phu My Hung area and to enlarge in neighboring provinces ...

According to some traffic experts, the proposed route with large demand for travelling, attracting passengers, contributing to solve road traffic congestion, especially trouble-spot in traffic jam such as intersection Binh Trieu, Eastern coach station, intersection Dinh Bo Linh Bach Dang... the route Ben Nghe - Tau Hu is a combination of waterways, roads (in East-West avenue) and tramcar (tramcar line No. 1 from Saigon - Ben Thanh - Mien Tay coach station is 9 km in length along East-West avenue across Ben Nghe canal - Tau Hu). Also, the route of bus canoe will contribute to promote tourism development by waterway in HCMC.

To be going to meet the needs quickly

As Daily Company, to facilitate the movement of people as well as ensuring the revenue to maintain operations, bus canoe should have capacity about 80 seats/ unit. Along two branches of rivers of 02 routes for proposal pilot to build four multi-functional central terminals (disembarkation/ embarkation guests, parking and business operation) and 12 stations to pick passenger up. During rush hours, bus canoe will operate with high frequency to service the needs of people and run as figure zich-zac to meet needs to go along and across the route.

According to Department of Transportation & Traffic, HCMC has advantages investment in building wharfs due to City People's Committee has decided to protect safety river corridor. Accordingly, depending on the river level will have a certain road and this is the land to build terminals for the operation of the bus boat.

Daily Company estimated the investment cost to build four center terminals (in District 1, District 2, Binh Thanh District and Thu Duc District) is VND 18 billion, the cost of purchase eight bus canoes estimated VND 28 billion invested by the company. The company has recommended HCM City to create favorable conditions for legal procedures, support space clearance and the funds to build 12 stations (estimated at VND 12 billion).
