Exploiting two river bus routes

August 4th, Waterway Transportation Management of Transport & Traffic Department of HCM City has worked with Daily Co., Ltd to exploit detailed project to build two routes of public passenger transport by waterway (river bus).


Formerly, City People's Committee has approved the policy proposed exploitation construction two river bus routes of Transportation & Traffic Department. City People’s Committee also assigned departments and related districts to consider assessment of this proposal.

According to the Department of Transportation & Traffic, the current road traffic in the inner city area was overloaded during rush hours. Therefore, the construction of river bus route is very necessary and feasible because these routes are suitable with the content of network planning waterway, ports and piers in Ho Chi Minh City. Department of Transportation & Traffic said that the two river bus routes proposed to meet the technology and low investment cost compared to other forms of public transport.

According to project, the route 1 of river bus comes from Bach Dang Wharf (District 1) along Saigon River through Thanh Da channel, Binh Thanh District, District 2 and the last stop at Binh Quoi wharf (Linh Dong Ward, Thu Duc District) with about 11km length and 30 minutes of travel time. This route has 10 terminals connected to the road bus. Route 2 begins from Bach Dang Wharf (District 1) along Ben Nghe -Tau Hu canal, District 5, District 6 and ends at Phu Dinh station (District 8).

Route 2 also has a length of 11km with 30 minutes of travel time and has 07 embarkation/ disembarkation stations. The terminals of the second route will connect with the pedestrian bridge along the East West Avenue. Capital investment for 16 boats of the two routes about 32 billion, of which eight boats with 100 guests per boat and eight boats with 400 guests per boat.
