Recently, People's Committee of HCM City has approved the policy to construct and exploit two routes of public passenger transport by waterways (river bus) proposed by Daily Co., Ltd. Mr. Nguyen Kim Toan, Director of Daily Company does believe that "River Bus" will have guests if operation safely, culture and convenience.
Reporter: What routes will river bus travel, sir?
Mr. Nguyen Kim Toan: In the first stage, we will invest in building and exploiting the two routes. The first one will be from Linh Dong (Thu Duc) to District 1. This route will have terminals in the regions: Binh Quoi, Hiep Binh Chanh, Thanh Da, Tam Vu, Thao Dien, New Port, Binh An (District 2), Nguyen Huu Canh (Binh Thanh District) and Bach Dang (District 1). The second one travels along Tau Hu channel - Ben Nghe Ward through the District 8, 6, 5, 4 (with terminals in the regions have pedestrian bridge along Vo Van Kiet Boulevard) to Bach Dang (Q.1).
The length of each route is about 11km to 12km. We will use the widely & airy ship, with speed about 30 km to 40 km/ hour, load of 80 guests, 60 guests, 40 guests. Boats will operate during rush hours and less than during low hours. It takes about 30 minutes for one route including the time of embarkation/ disembarkation.
Reporter: How to carry out investment and capital mobilization for this project? What do you expect when the project comes into practice?

Mr. Nguyen Kim Toan: Total of capital about VND 58 billion investment project to build four multi-functional piers and 12 stations as well as purchase eight boats ... In particular, we recommend the City’s support to build 12 stations along two routes (worth about US $12 billion). Other items, the company will invest and withdraw by selling tickets to passengers. We do believe that when the project puts into practice, it will help to reduce the load for road traffic, reduce traffic jams, and create the habit of using public transportation by waterway of all people.

Reporter: In fact, the public passenger transportation by waterway in Vietnam is not something new. Previously, some units had made but not effective, why does Daily continue to propose this project?
Mr. Nguyen Kim Toan : We found that 10 years ago, we have no such favorable conditions. Currently, the pressure of traffic jams... requires us to look for a different type to support road transport. With dense river system of city, transport by waterways is ideal condition for us to implement this project. HCM City also has planned to develop transport and travel by waterway.
Last years, city has conducted renovation of rivers, canals throughout the region. In addition, the technical conditions of machines, means of transport are now well advanced and will support so much on the success of the project. In the first stage, we will choose routes in which not long and must be so effective if compared to road transport with the same route.
This is difference point with other projects that other units had done before. We believe in people’s support if this model operates culture, safety, firm and environmental protection.
Reporter: After City People's Committee approval for pilot two routes; what is the next direction of the project, sir?
Mr. Nguyen Kim Toan: In the projects we have planned to develop scale of the second stage if the people support. It is to expand and develop linking routes in City with belts routes as well as other urban routes such as Long An, Thu Dau Mot, Nhon Trach, Bien Hoa and Phu My , Vung Tau. HCM City are very active, city leaders always are looking for the new ways to develop people's welfare.
Being a private company, we would like to contribute into the development of the city. Hope that City will have oriented-policy firmly and supported-policy to enterprise, especially support for the new models.
