TT - Leaving behind the imposing buildings and noisy streets full of smoke and dust, we left the Bach Dang Wharf in two canoes against the Saigon River toward the Cu Chi. Sunny light, canoe slid on the water feels bobbing, more cheerful.
Around the Thanh Da peninsula, canoe drives across through Binh Trieu Bridge passing Binh Phuoc and Phu Long. Hyacinth drifts along the river, stretching on both sides of laden orchard with fruit. Next is to Lai Thieu with bustling scene on the boat landing.
The boat is busy with shipping pottery bowls from the pottery-kiln; waiting low tide will drive to HCM City, and then turn Te Channel - Double Channel to the Mekong Delta provinces or even Cambodia far away.
The first stop is Mr. Tran Van Ho’ house - Governor of the French colonial mission - located on Bach Dang Street, Thu Dau Mot Town, Binh Duong. Ancient buildings with intricate carvings are in the nail-shaped timber.
A walk around town, the ancient Hoi Khanh, a historical monument - the national culture which we cannot miss it, located on the back of the hill among the high trees with 52m long Buddha, recognized Vietnam's largest reclining Buddha by Record Book Centre...
Unlike the downstream area is always crowded with boats, the way goes up the Saigon River upstream, particularly in the region of the Cu Chi quietly. Occasionally, white storks wingspan in the middle of floating clouds. Natural sceneries are so rustic & peaceful.
In the afternoon, boat drives across Ben Dinh Tunnel and not long the boat landed Ben Duoc Tunnel. The roof of Ben Duoc Temple appears with ancient architectural monuments and the main tower rises in the blue sky. Everyone is pleased with "mission" to explore to left tours on the river open so long.
It is still cool water, hyacinth clouds floating, the massive concrete bridge with cars that running on top ... landscape has changed, other boats on the river, on the banks of dike, children play to fly kites, birds flying slowly toward coconut trees far away. The sun likes fireball sinking gradually in the river.
A day trip on the Saigon River, though still "riding to see the flowers" but also we can realize that many new things, especially the tourist potential areas of Thu Dau Mot where is ever difficult to attract tourists.
Mr. Nguyen Viet Anh, Manager of Travel Management – Department of Culture, Sport and Tourism of HCM City, said that:
Last time we are carrying out surveys and making plans to develop tourism by waterway in HCM City. We operate some short trip routes and continue to open towards Cu Chi - Binh Duong. Hopefully, this tour will become one of the most attractive tourism products in the next few years.
Is a typical urban with canals, Saigon River flows through the center, but tourism in Vietnam has not yet exploited the potential?
Except for MICE tourism types, a few tours, shopping ... Vietnam tourism products is still rather monotonous, less attractive. With the development of river tourism, we do hope that we will contribute to diversify forms of "city tour" in Ho Chi Minh City, contributing to change the face of both sides of the Saigon River.
Certainly, there will have a lot difficulties such as planning of the two sides river for stations and coordinate with the development departments, tour operators ... In additional, if this plane is carried out and build long-term plan for the next 5-10 years as well as Thu Thiem New Urban completed, the Saigon River will become very nice.
From now on, if we don’t develop it, we will lose the opportunity and never do.
